FAQs

a) Are you insured??

Yes. Barkley’s is insured to professionally care for dogs. Our insurance covers public liability; day care; custody and control of your pet.

b) What areas of Dublin do you cover?

We are working on expanding our services through-out the city. We currently offer our services across Dublin city north & south. Please get in contact with us and we will accommodate your doggy as best we can! We have big plans to offer our services to all of Dublin and beyond.

c) I have a puppy, can they come to the Daycare Centre?

Definitely! The early stages of your dog’s life are key to developing essential social and life skills. We accept puppies from 12 weeks, so long as they have had their 2nd vaccinations

d) What if it's raining?

Barkleys is open come rain or shine! Although we are primarily an outdoor daycare, each area of the daycare has shelter available at all times. Most dogs aren't too fussed about a spot of rain, but for those that are there is always a cosy place to escape to.

e) Will my dog come home clean?

In our experience, a dirty dog is a happy dog! But we also realise that a dirty dog often means an unhappy owner!... We always try our best to send dogs home as clean as possible. We have heated showers at the daycare to wash dogs down if they get muddy. They may not come home pristine, but they won't come home covered in muck!

f) Will my dog be happy travelling to and from the centre?

Yes. A Barkleys dog travels in style, and we proudly take travel comfort very seriously! Our Doggy Buses are fitted with special air conditioning, have beds and big, comfortable compartments. Each Doggy Bus has data tracking so we can measure and monitor driving style, so we’re ensuring a smooth journey. We even play pan pipe or classic musical in the back for the dogs.

g) What time do you pick up and drop off each day?

We collect our dogs between 7:15am and 8:45am and drop them home between 3:00pm and 4:45pm. The exact times depend on where you live within the route and the traffic on the day. We have different routes covering different parts of Dublin- allowing us to get everyone collected as quickly as possible!

h) What happens when it rains or is too cold for my dog to be outside?

All of our outdoor zones are fully equipped with a heated indoor space that your dog will have access to at all times. Perfect for a snooze or a cuddle.

i) Will my dog be supervised at all times?

Yes. Your dog will be under constant supervision by our team of experienced carers and will NEVER be left unattended.

j) Do I need to book on the same days each week?

No. You can come as little or as often as you like.

k) Do I need to be home when you collect or drop-off my dog?

We offer a service whereby our driver can hold your key and details securely, with no reference linking your address and keys.

l) My dog doesn't get on with other dogs, can they still come to Barkleys?

Unfortunately not. Although, we understand that not all dogs love being around groups of other dogs. If yours doesn't, then we aren't the right place for them to spend their days. Our daycare is a friendly and sociable place for dogs to interact and play together, and if your dogs isn't going to enjoy that or shows any form of aggression towards other dogs then we wouldn't be able to accept them.

m) What is your policy on neutering?

This is a very sensitive question for most dog owners. We don’t have a blanket policy for dogs to be neutered. The decision to neuter depends on a whole multitude of things and as such, we will always make recommendations and decisions based only on each individual dog, the behaviour they are demonstrating, and what we think is best for them.

At Barkleys, we are determined to provide the safest, friendliest and most sociable environment for all our dogs to be in. As such, we welcome un-neutered dogs under the following conditions:

  • They are not excessively humping
  • They are not displaying dominant behaviour
  • They are not causing dominant behaviours from other dogs due to their intact status
  • They are not creating an unsafe play environment
  • Their presence is not reducing the overall peacefulness of the group

All dogs are constantly monitored when they are in daycare, but as male dogs reach 6-7 months of age we keep an extra careful eye on them to watch out for the behaviour listed above. If/when these do start to show, we’ll let you know and make the necessary recommendations. If the owner does not accept our advice then we will not be able to accept their dog in the future.

Un-spayed female dogs are very welcome in daycare, apart from when they are actually in season. During this time, they need to be kept out of group play to prevent any unwanted pregnancies and also to prevent the boys going wild! If you choose not to spay your female dog, this is absolutely fine- you’ll just need to factor in that they wont be able to attend daycare during each season and these days will need to be cancelled and will be charged at the cancellation rate for that period of time. A season will usually last 2-3 weeks from start to finish.

n) Where is the daycare centre located?

Our dedicated site is located on lush farmland in north Co. Dublin and is a 35 minute drive from the city centre. Follow live updates on our Instagram for a closer look at our purpose built enriched facility!

o) What is your cancellation policy?

At Barkleys you aren't forced into a contract with a minimum length of service or notice period. We want you to send your dog to us because they love coming and because you want to, not because you have to! You are free to stop at anytime- although dogs are usually with us for a significant period of time. Day to day, you are able to cancel one of your regular days of daycare online through your account right up until 11pm the night before. Cancelled days are reduced to 50% and continue to be reserved for you so you never lose your place.
